After attempting to give all the NHL games some fair ice time ('94 thru '99), strangely enough, I find myself repeatedly drawn back to EA Sports' NHL '94.
I even like the simplicity of the box art... The modern games typically showcase an NHL poster boy...
The cover of NHL '94 shows an action photograph of the Bruins and Kings.
Sure, it's not as high scoring or fast moving as later games in the series... But the simplicity and solid gameplay with incredible replay value has given it enduring popularity....
Seems as if I'm not alone in thinking that that NHL '94 still kicks ass... Diehards fans have created their own community, competing in online leagues, and even modding the game. (nhl94.com)
Because seriously, when a game is this good, why would you stop playing?

Regardless of how modern or fancy something has become, a game of chess is still just that.
Like a real sport - Every goal, every play, every bounce... It's always different.
NHL '94 is just damn good hockey, plain and simple...

| Boston Bruins against the old Hartford Whalers... Man, I miss the '90s.... Thankfully there's NHL '94! |
