WTF Hockey Card: Scott Hartnell (2002-03 Upper Deck #101)

Scott Hartnell
2002-03 Upper Deck #101
Looks like a cool action photo at first glance - Until you realize that his stick blade appears to be breaking off...

Lousy composhit.

Cool Card: North Stars (1989-90 O-Pee-Chee #306)

North Stars
1989-90 O-Pee-Chee #306
Picked up this card, from a time when it wasn't overly common for cards to feature great action snapshots....

One defender drives the opposing player away from the net, while the stick from a diving poke check prevents the Boston player from getting a shot.

In addition to it being a great photo, it's also one of the few remaining cards to complete my 1989-90 set.

Cards That Remind Me of Other Cards...

J.P. Dumont
2007-08 Upper Deck #8
Sometimes one card reminds me of another card.
A decade and a half apart, and from two different companies, this card instantly made me think of the one below...

Adam Graves
1991-92 Pro Set #67
An annoyed goaltender looking through the opposing player in his crease....

WTF Hockey Card: Rob Ramage (1992-93 Upper Deck #105)

Rob Ramage
1992-93 Upper Deck #105
Seen another blogger comment on this card...
(shoeboxlegends.blogspot.com)

The background is out of focus, but there's definitely
an abundance of skin, blonde hair and pink clothing.

Couldn't help examine the card after adding it to my collection...

I'm convinced it's an optical illusion... Possibly a girl looking sideways, with a guy's bald head in the way.

Gary Roberts
2007-08 Upper Deck #112
On a similar note, I couldn't help but notice the background on this card is in much better focus...

Chris Kunitz
2011-12 Score #369
And another random Penguins card...

Cool Card: Keith Tkachuk (1998-99 Upper Deck MVP #156)

Keith Tkachuk
1998-99  Upper Deck MVP #156
The debut of Upper Deck's MVP brand in 1998-99 was during the early years of the Phoenix Coyotes and the "Keith Tkachuk Jersey".

WTF Hockey Card: Darrin Shannon (1991-92 Upper Deck #322)

Darrin Shannon
1991-92 Upper Deck #322
(card back)
Always get a kick out of the back of this card...

Even a professional hockey player can't resist playing with a fun, colorful balloon.

From Z to Z

Zdeno Chara
2008-09 Upper Deck Ice #100
Picked up a few cool sets of Upper Deck Ice. Base cards (1-100), no Young Guns or Memorabilia... But it was hard to pass up four sets for the price of one... (Especially since Ice has become one of my favorite brands within the vast UD realm...)

Zdeno Chara
09-10 Upper Deck Ice #1
Admiring the mint condition cards as I tucked them gently into binder sheets, noticed that Zdeno Chara's card #100 was the last base card from 2008-09. Turn the album page and the first card from 2009-10 is Zdeno Chara. (Also note the appearance of the new Upper Deck logo on the 2009-10 set)

Cool Card: Curtis Joseph (1992-93 Pinnacle #264)

Curtis Joseph
1992-93 Pinnacle #264
Better known for vicious dog masks later in his career, I vividly remember Cujo's jazzy Blues mask that he wore during early seasons in St. Louis.

The first Pinnacle Masks from 1992-93 were base cards within the main set.

While nowhere near as cool as a Cujo card from the later Pinnacle Masks sets, finding cards like these for a nickel tends to put me in a good mood.

Cool Card: Doug Weight (2005-06 Upper Deck Ice #85)

Doug Weight
2005-06 Upper Deck Ice #85
One of my favorites from 2005-06 Upper Deck Ice...
This entire set is slick and smooth, but this card seems to jump out at me for some reason.

Doug Weight displays poise & balance, while looking intent on making a play. Every single letter of his last name is also visible on his jersey.
