Pivotal Game 3 went to overtime with the Canadiens prevailing, even after they had a goal disallowed (due to a high stick).
With the OT victory, the Montreal Canadiens had cut the series lead down to 2-1 in favor of Quebec Nordiques.
If Quebec had managed to score, Montreal would have found themselves in a stranglehold. The Canadiens managed to escape sudden death, and went on to win the series 4-2.
