Value "Vintage"

Joel Quenneville
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #78

1981-82 O-Pee-Chee
Total Cards: 396

Sometimes I'd rather travel back in time than look forward to the future...

A partial set offers a visual history of the NHL teams and players. Looking through some oldschool O-Pee-Chee cards to discover all kinds of things.

More recently coaching the Florida Panthers (from 2019- 2021), here's Joel Quenneville as a member of the Colorado Rockies... Was more familiar with him as a member of the Hartford Whalers.

Greg Millen
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #134

I seriously didn't know about this one. Noticed a cartoon whale on the shoulders of the Hartford Whalers' uniforms... Is this some kind of joke? Apparently, "Pucky" the whale did in fact appear on the Whalers' jerseys until being harpooned in 1985.

Don Beaupre RC
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #159

Thrifty collecting means occasionally passing up opportunities in the hopes of finding it cheaper elsewhere... Missed a chance to snag this card a while back. Was pleasantly surprised to find it in the lot.

Never actually saw Don Beaupre in a Minnesota uniform. Remember him best as a Washington Capital.

Billy Smith
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #207

Billy Smith looks like a guy in the bar that nobody wants to mess with.

Bernie Federko (Super Action)
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #300

Bernie Federko made a guest appearance at the 2020 All-Star game in St. Louis. Didn't have any cards depicting him in a Blues uniform until now. One of my favorite cards from the set so far.

Recently saw some old playoff clips (possibly from 1988). Federko was still with the St. Louis Blues, playing against Adam Oates and the Detroit Red Wings.

Oates and Federko would switch teams as part of a trade in 1989.

Mike Luit (Super Action)
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #301

Another old time goalie mask work by Mike Liut. More elongated than the standard "Jason Voorhees" style, which gives a different look.

A few of the bank robbers in the movie Heat may have worn something similar.

Rick Lanz
1981-82 O-Pee-Chee #338

It's a "Flying V" jersey! I like this card because we can see the classic painted face mask of Washington Capitals' goaltender Mike Palmateer.
